Backen Team Hiring Lighting Specialist / Senior Lighting Specialist for the Portland Metro area

Position Description: Lighting Specialist / Account Manager

This position requires extensive experience in the lighting technology and/or utility energy efficiency program field. A minimum of five years’ experience in the electrical industry, and/or lighting design, sales, distribution, and/or installation experience is required.

A Lighting Specialist must possess the ability to build relationships with trade allies and program partners as well as influence decision-makers. The successful applicant will be a self-starter and will be highly organized with good communication skills. There will be some travel within Oregon.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage electrical contractors, distributors, and other lighting market actors to help them leverage Energy Trust incentive programs.
  • Train and assist lighting trade allies with program tools.
  • Provide commercial and industrial lighting technical assistance to lighting trade allies, end-use customers, utility representatives, and others.
  • Conduct on-site training with trade ally and/or utility representatives on lighting technologies and lighting analysis software tools.
  • Participate in company trainings, communications, and program planning efforts to drive
  • successful results to meet client needs.
  • Conduct “joint calls” with lighting trade allies and/or utility representatives and their end use customers to sell energy efficient lighting projects.
  • Conduct onsite project verifications to confirm project installations have been completed according to original design.

Position Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in electrical industry, and/or lighting design, lighting distribution and/or lighting technology applications and/or utility marketing field is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in lighting technologies.
  • Experience in non-lighting technology applications, preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task, with exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter who is detail-oriented and organized.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office applications proficiency.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • High School diploma with some higher education or vocational training specializing in lighting or the utility or energy fields.
  • Knowledge and experience in additional energy technologies in the commercial and/or the industrial marketplace a plus.
  • Previous home office experience helpful but not required.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Dependable transportation along with proof of automobile insurance.

  • Compensation is very competitive and commensurate with experience in the industry.
  • If hired as an independent contractor (preferred), there are no benefits, other than a year-end bonus
    • Program related expenses are reimbursed.
  • If hired as an employee (only if candidate is the perfect hire), then standard benefits apply.
